Leigh Freeman, Principal
Leigh holds a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering from Montana Tech of The University of Montana in Butte, Montana. He has a broad perspective of the mining industry. Over the course of his eclectic career he has served in technical, managerial and executive positions with junior and senior mining and service companies. Leigh has extensive domestic and international experience including exploration, project development and production.
Leigh was the General Manager and a Principal for 13 years in Downing Teal Inc, a global recruiting company based out of Australia, serving the natural resource industries. He was a co-founder of Orvana Minerals, a Toronto Stock Exchange listed public company that operates the largest gold mine in Bolivia. He also served as Chief Geophysicist for Placer Dome, an international gold mining company (now part of Barrick Gold).
Leigh serves on the industry advisory boards for the mining programs at the University of Arizona, Montana Tech, South Dakota School of Mines, and Western State Colorado University. In addition, he co-chaired the Education Sustainability Committee for the Society of Mining Engineers.
He was appointed to an ad hoc committee of the National Academy of Sciences for a study of "Emerging Workforce Trends in the US Energy and Mining Industries". Leigh recently complete a paper for the National Academy of Engineers entitled "The Future of Mining".
